You can use this one, and for those of you who have a fabulous Sugar Cookie Recipe that your Aunt Edna left you, and you can\u2019t imagine trying a different Sugar Cookie.. go ahead and use that (let me know how it went).\u00a0The main thing is that you roll the dough a bit thicker\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Now\u2026 about the Bat shape. I have a bat cookie cutter\u2026 I love my bat cookie cutter\u2026. it didn\u2019t work for these cookies. The bat wings were wide, and it made them fragile (plus, they were too wide to dip). I ended up making my own bat template, and tracing it in dough. (Yes, I as a matter of fact, I was one of those overachievers in elementary school). The bat template I used is below the recipe\u2026 go ahead and freehand a bat picture, \u00a0trace it onto cardboard, and use it to cut your cookies. Of course, if you have a good one, use a bat cookie cutter. (And, naturally, you don\u2019t HAVE to make Bats\u2026 whatever shape you like will work\u2026 pumpkins, platypuses and trains are also quite acceptable on a stick\u2026 decorate accordingly).<\/p>\n<p>I used tubes of decorator gel to make the face\u2026 feel free to use colored icing\u2026 or use sprinkles\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em>Makes\u00a018 Bats more or less<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Total Time:\u00a02 hours&#8230; maybe 2 1\/2&#8230; you need cooling and setting time. Of course, you could speed things up by using a cookie cutter instead of hand cutting, and put the cookies in the fridge to set.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BASIC SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE<\/p>\n<p>1 cup Butter<\/p>\n<p>2\/3 cup Granulated Sugar<\/p>\n<p>1 Egg<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp Vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p>2 1\/2 cups Unbleached Flour<\/p>\n<p>CHOCOLATE COATING<\/p>\n<p>1 pkg Chocolate Melts<\/p>\n<p>DECORATION<\/p>\n<p>white and red decorator frosting<\/p>\n<p>Wooden Skewers<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You need a Bat Template, or a Bat Cookie Cutter&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>MAKE THE SUGAR COOKIE DOUGH<\/p>\n<p>In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar for 4 or 5 minutes until light and fluffy.<\/p>\n<p>Beat in the egg&#8230; at medium speed&#8230; scrape down the sides when it&#8217;s beat in.<\/p>\n<p>Add the Vanilla extract<\/p>\n<p>With mixer on slow speed, add the flour a bit at a time, until it&#8217;s completely incorporated.<\/p>\n<p>Scrape the sides<\/p>\n<p>Beat another 30 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Stick the dough in the refrigerator for half an hour&#8230; make sure it&#8217;s covered with plastic wrap, or stick in a Tupperware container.<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the Oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit<\/p>\n<p>Take the dough out of the fridge<\/p>\n<p>I like to roll my dough between 2 sheets of waxed paper or plastic wrap, it keeps the counter clean, and makes the dough easy to manipulate.<\/p>\n<p>Roll the dough to a thickness of around 1\/3 inch.<\/p>\n<p>Cut out the bats<\/p>\n<p>If you are using the template, make sure your knife is sharp, and maybe has a narrow tip.<\/p>\n<p>Lift the bats onto a cookie sheet. Go ahead and smooth the edges with your fingers.<\/p>\n<p>Stick a wooden skewer into the bottom of the bat. Guide it in with your fingers so it doesn&#8217;t pop out.<\/p>\n<p>Bake the cookies for 11 minutes<\/p>\n<p>Let cool for one minute on the cookie sheet&#8230; then move the cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely<\/p>\n<p>Pour the chocolate melts into a microwave safe container&#8230; melt them<\/p>\n<p>I use a plug in chocolate heater thing (designed for cake pops) to keep the chocolate warm and melted&#8230; HOWEVER<\/p>\n<p>the bats don&#8217;t really fit in it<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>you just need to dip the fronts<\/p>\n<p>SO<\/p>\n<p>I store the chocolate in the heater thing&#8230; but spoon chocolate into a flat soup bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Carefully dip the front of the bats<\/p>\n<p>I stick the bat sticks into foam board to set&#8230; you don&#8217;t need to&#8230; if you don&#8217;t have foam, go ahead and rest them dry side down on waxed paper.<\/p>\n<p>When the chocolate is set&#8230; give the bats a face&#8230; I used white for eyes, red for the mouth&#8230; and if you are really artistic, make teeth.<\/p>\n<p>Let that set<\/p>\n<p>DONE<\/p>\n<p>Serve them up by sticking the stick part into a container filled with foam.<\/p>\n<p>Be warned&#8230; if your sticks are too long, and the container is too small&#8230; it can tip over (then you get bat face on your tablecloth, and it&#8217;s a bugger to get out).<\/p>\n<h2>Supplies you need to Make Bat
