\"goingOk, I admit it, sometimes my enthusiasm for gets away from me, and I find myself going overboard on Halloween<\/p>\n

Although, I might add, this does mean I should be up for some sort of Mom of the Year Award….<\/p>\n

A few years back, I asked my son, “What do you want to be this year for Halloween”? \u00a0Of course, by this time, I had already developed a reputation for costuming the kids (I blame my mother… she gave me a sewing machine when the oldest was born, so I’d have “something to fill my time”) (stop laughing)<\/p>\n

He looked me square in the eye, and said…”a SQUID”.<\/p>\n

what?<\/p>\n

“A SQUID!!!!”<\/p>\n

sigh<\/p>\n

ok<\/p>\n

time to get the creative juices flowing…<\/p>\n

BTW. there are no patterns for a Giant Squid. I would have to wing this one entirely.<\/p>\n

Got out paper, measuring tape, found some groovy fabric…. developed some ideas…. went to work.<\/p>\n

My house was chaos while I constructed. Chicken wire, foam, paint and stuffing…. not to mention a sewing machine. Bits of thread and material were everywhere.<\/p>\n

But in the end, I DID IT. I created an awesome squid costume.<\/p>\n

Naturally, by this time, my son had completely lost interest in being a squid.<\/p>\n

sigh<\/p>\n

I made him wear it anyway.<\/p>\n

And we realized something that I had forgotten to take into account. Giant Squid costumes are heavy.<\/p>\n

25 pounds of squid is tricky for a kid to balance.<\/p>\n

The poor kid made it to 4 houses inside this contraption… dragging his tentacles behind him.<\/p>\n

Then he gave up.<\/p>\n

sigh<\/p>\n

next year he was Harry Potter<\/a>…..<\/p>\n
